Student Casework Investigator - Imperial College London

We are looking for an experienced Student Casework Investigator to join a growing Student Casework Team. This is a permanent, full-time, position within a busy team that manages the delivery of outcomes to reports of student misconduct or student requests for the review of decisions taken by the College. You will be one of two Student Casework Investigators based within the broader Quality Assurance and Enhancement Team in Registry and work closely with both professional services and academic colleagues, and with our students and their representatives.

Duties and responsibilities

The primary role will be conducting formal investigations into allegations of student misconduct, including serious sexual misconduct, harassment, fitness to study and practice. This will include meeting with students and staff, gathering additional evidence as required and preparing formal investigation reports in accordance with the College’s casework policies. You will also be responsible for presenting the report to formal College Panels. You will have experience of coordinating complex processes and sensitive matters and your specialist knowledge and skills will ensure that investigations are conducted in a professional and proportionate manner.

Essential requirements

  • Proven experience of conducting sensitive and complex investigations, including investigations of alleged conduct that could constitute an alleged criminal offence or serious sexual misconduct.
  • Demonstrate specialist knowledge of the complexities of sexual violence, including the impact on those who have experienced sexual misconduct and the impact of being accused of sexual misconduct.
  • Knowledge of the expectations of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator and the Office for Students and the potential for reputational risk to the College presented by student casework.
  • Experience of dealing with distressed people in a calm and confident manner and an ability to build professional relationships with students and staff engaged in the casework procedures.
  • Experience of identifying and proposing enhancements to procedures and policies and implementing improvements.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to organise a heavy workload, identify priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under time constraints and other pressures.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to liaise will colleagues at all levels of the College.
  • Ability to communicate complex information clearly, concisely, and persuasively; highly developed negotiating and influencing skills.

Further information

The role is full time, open ended. You will be based at the College’s South Kensington Campus. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite. The opportunity for hybrid working will be discussed at interview.
